Sobering Heart Attack Research

Those of you who follow me know I am a proponent of ANY physical movement in general. Are there ideal ways for you to maximize your fitness results? Absolutely, but when it comes to general health and wellness, all you really need to do is move your body around on a daily basis and be conscious of what you're eating. Today on Yahoo! I read some pretty sobering research picked up out of a featured health article:

Scientists at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana analyzed the lifestyles of more than 17,000 men and women over about 13 years, and found that people who sit for most of the day are 54 percent more likely to die of heart attacks. - Yahoo! Full Article

You read it right, 54 PERCENT!!! If that doesn't make you want to get up off your ass and move around a little bit, I don't know what will! If you guys haven't figured it out yet, I'm really trying to get you on your feet! Awhile back I posted a blog about a fat burning enzyme called lipase which stops working once you've been sitting on your caboose for a couple hours. That was supposed to get you up and moving to avoid being fat. This new stat is to get you up and moving to avoid being dead. From a biological and evolutionary standpoint, our sedentary ways are pushing us backward and are literally killing us. Please, so my little trainer heart will stop aching, take 5 minute walking breaks from your desk at work, don't sit down on your breaks, go walking with a friend, facebook while standing with your laptop on the counter, chase butterflies in the back yard, do SOMETHING, ANYTHING to get yourself off your butt.
