I've recently seen more and more commercials like this one popping up on television regarding the consumption of high fructose corn syrup. Please don't be fooled by corn sugar industry's attempts at "educating" you about high fructose corn syrup and how it is safe for consumption. That's like having a Budweiser sales representative hold a lecture on why the carbohydrates in beer makes Bud Light an excellent post-workout recovery drink...Come on seriously!
And just because HFCS is "just like sugar" doesn't mean it is any better to consume. HFCS and natural sugar are both linked to an increased risk for weight gain, diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. The bottom line is this: HFCS is hidden in too many foods, which is why I believe it is so dangerous! Of course it is found in processed foods, sweets, candies and other snacks you would expect to have sugar naturally occurring in them. HFCS sneaks up on you when it is added to breads, cereals, condiments and other common foods you wouldn't really expect to have sugar in them. HFCS hides in all sorts of products people buy at the super market and they blindly consume it every day: that's what makes HFCS so scary!
Let's not forget the fact that high fructose corn syrup is banned in many European countries. Think that is an accident???
