Keep Seeing Results

The ability to keep your body and mind interested in working out regularly can be a difficult task for even the most season gym veteran. Seeing results and keeping interested in your personal fitness can be achieved by following the F.I.T.T.E. Principle. Here's what F.I.T.T.E. stands for and how it can help:

Frequency - The body adapts to how much stress is placed on it. Therefore, you can break plateaus by simply changing the number of days you work out a week.

Intensity - Varying the intensity at which you work out can trick your muscles and metabolism. Try different techniques like increasing the amount of weight you're using,  super sets, compound sets, complexes, circuit training and interval training to turn up the heat on your workout.

Time - A good rule of thumb is your weight training sessions should never last more than an hour since the catabolic hormone cortisol will begin doing more harm than good after that amount of time. With that being said, varying the length of your workouts combined with changing your intensity is a great way to make your workout interesting and to keep your body guessing. The more intense your session, the less time you have to spend doing it!

Type - Simply changing the type of cardio you are doing and performing different variations of similar movements can cause very positive fitness adaptations to occur in your body. Remember, our body specifically adapts to the demand we place on it. Therefore, you can stimulate positive strength, size, endurance and overall fitness gains by mixing up your exercise selection.

Enjoyment - The most important psychological tip I can offer is to choose physical activity you enjoy! Fitness, like many things in life, means different things to different people and doesn't require you to be confined to joining a gym. Fitness is about giving that wonderful machine we call a body some attention. Any activity the gets your heart pumping, blood flowing and muscles working can count for physical activity. Go on hikes, play basketball in the back yard, toss a Frisbee in the park, build something with your bare hands, learn how to use a kettle bell, run at the beach, run at the local football stadium, ride a bike, do anything JUST MOVE!
