I have learned that to be a more refined and sustainable version of what you are now you must surround yourself with teachers. Sometimes it is hard for us to admit we don't have all the answers. Asking questions and being open to guidance are some of the best growth practices we can adopt as we move towards a better understanding what exactly we are doing here in life. It is also important to be open to some constructive criticism every once in awhile. Surround yourself with people who will promote growth in the areas of your life you wish to improve. Our body and our mind are largely shaped by our environment. If you want to be more fit, surround yourself with healthy and fit people. If you want to learn to be more successful in business, surround yourself with successful business people. If you do this with an open mind, you will have immersed yourself in an environment rich with knowledge, answers and guidance. We are social creatures and we look to our environment for ques on how to live our own personal lives. The fun part about being an individual is learning from those around us who are wiser and then putting our own unique spin on the lessons we have learned from them.
Fitness is a large part of my reality, therefore I speak from my experience within my own training pursuits, working with people and running my own business. Other trainers, fitness experts, mentors and even the clients I work with on a daily basis are all teachers because each day I am faced with new information and challenges that didn't exist the day before. If I meet expert advice or my client's special needs with a closed mind, I will not learn and evolve as a trainer or a business person. I believe this dual role of student and teacher pushed me to not only be a better trainer, but a better person! No matter what journey we choose to embark on, there will always be evolving ideas, concepts and beliefs to go with the ever evolving world around us. Evolution is a principle in which all things must adhere to should they seek to be sustainable over time. If you wish to be fit for a life time, you must learn to adapt your training habits and approaches to new scientific discoveries, training practices and of course your aging body. The question is what do you choose to be and how great do you want to be? It doesn't matter what aspect of your life you want to improve, as soon as you are open and ask for teachers, they will appear!
